Patio Covers and Arbors in San Jose
Patio covers and arbors add shade and a frame over a walk or deck. Meza's Fence builds these in San Jose, including arbors over gates and a pergola shown in the project photos. Family-owned since 2001. Licensed .
What it is and who it is for
An arbor or cover is for owners who want shade or a marked entry, not a full enclosed room. This page shows Meza gate arbors and deck covers plus a wood pergola reference for the oily-stain style homeowners ask for most.
Pair this with a deck or a front yard fence when the structures should match.
Options
A popular patio-cover request is a regular pergola with an oily stain. We also build deck arbors and gate arbors. Size and whether the structure attaches to the house change the bid.
What changes the price (why we estimate on site)
South Bay fence and deck numbers are ranges, not a flat catalog price. These are the variables that decide where your job lands. That is why the free on-site estimate matters.
- Landscape and site conditions: Hard ground, rocks, steep grades, turf, vines, boulders, or trees that force hand work instead of machinery.
- Underground obstacles: Irrigation, electrical lines, or old concrete. Common in neighborhoods such as Country Club and Almaden Valley.
- Material selection: Standard boards versus premium heartwood or high-end composites such as Trex.
- Project scope: Linear footage for fences, square footage for decks, and how much tear-out is needed.
- Design complexity: Standard good-neighbor or picket lines versus custom horizontal or modern designs.
- Gates: Walk gates are typically about 42 inches. Driveway gates are often about 10 feet; RV openings near 14 feet often need a metal frame so the leaf does not sag.
- Regulatory factors: City permits (for example San Jose side/rear fences over 6 feet plus 1 foot of lattice usually need review), and city business licenses where required.
Patio covers are quoted after we see the span and the house wall. Send photos for a free estimate. We reply within one business day.

What customers say about the work
“They were very accommodating. When I didn’t like a board they installed, they took it out and put another in. They were easy to work with and I would use them again.”

Shade, entries, and matching wood
An arbor over a gate is a front-yard object. An arbor over a deck is a backyard object. A pergola is a shade frame that may or may not sit on a new deck. Tell us which one you want, or send a photo of a style you like.
If the cover should match a new fence, send photos of both the yard and the house color. If it should match an existing deck, photograph the boards and the posts. Tell us whether you want it attached to the house or freestanding.
San Jose sun is hard on unfinished wood. An oily stain on a pergola is a common finish request. The estimate form takes photos, including HEIC, and we reply within one business day.
Family-owned since 2001, licensed and bonded, Diamond Certified, BBB A+ since 2008. If you want both a deck and a cover, say both so the bid is one project.
