Wood Gates Built for San Jose Homes
A wood gate has to swing or roll every day and still match the fence. Meza's Fence builds entry gates, double gates, arched pairs, and rolling gates for San Jose homes. Family-owned since 2001. Licensed .
What it is and who it is for
Gates fail when the frame is light, the hinge post moves, or the leaf is wider than the hardware can hold. This page is for owners adding a walk gate to a new fence, replacing a sagging pair, or opening a driveway with a rolling or double gate. Photographs here show an arched double gate, a custom entry, a rolling gate, and horizontal board gates. Those are Meza jobs.
If the fence itself is the project, start with redwood fences or front yard fences.
Options
Standard walk gates are typically about 42 inches wide. Driveway gates are often about 10 feet. If you need room for an RV, openings near 14 feet are common and often need a metal frame so the leaf does not sag. Photographed work includes single, double, arched, horizontal, and rolling gates.
Price guidance
For standard fencing in San Jose and the South Bay, jobs typically start at $42–$75 per linear foot. Typical San Jose / South Bay fence range. Final price depends on landscape, materials, scope, design, gates, and permits.
Neighborhoods with harder digs or older utilities, including Country Club and Almaden, often move toward the higher end of the range. Send photos and the property address for a free estimate. We reply within one business day.
What changes the price (why we estimate on site)
South Bay fence and deck numbers are ranges, not a flat catalog price. These are the variables that decide where your job lands. That is why the free on-site estimate matters.
- Landscape and site conditions: Hard ground, rocks, steep grades, turf, vines, boulders, or trees that force hand work instead of machinery.
- Underground obstacles: Irrigation, electrical lines, or old concrete. Common in neighborhoods such as Country Club and Almaden Valley.
- Material selection: Standard boards versus premium heartwood or high-end composites such as Trex.
- Project scope: Linear footage for fences, square footage for decks, and how much tear-out is needed.
- Design complexity: Standard good-neighbor or picket lines versus custom horizontal or modern designs.
- Gates: Walk gates are typically about 42 inches. Driveway gates are often about 10 feet; RV openings near 14 feet often need a metal frame so the leaf does not sag.
- Regulatory factors: City permits (for example San Jose side/rear fences over 6 feet plus 1 foot of lattice usually need review), and city business licenses where required.
A gate bid still depends on width, posts, hardware, and whether the fence is new or existing. Send the opening measurement with your photos.

“They are a good company and they do quality, beautiful work. A new fence will set off someone's backyard and make it pop. I had a small issue with one of my gates and the owner himself came out to fix it, now that is service.”

“Great! Even replaced gate latch free! And moved heavy planter gardens for us.”

Measure the opening and send a photo of the posts. Related: front yard fences, privacy fences.
A gate that matches the fence looks simple when it is done. Getting there means the posts are set for the load and the leaf is built as a frame, not a loose board. We answer estimates within one business day.
Openings, posts, and daily use
Measure the clear opening, not just the old leaf. A double gate that looks even in a photo can be two different widths on the ground. The rolling-gate photo on this page is a different mechanism than a pair of hinged leaves. Say which one you want, or send a photo of what is there now. If a car has to pass, write the vehicle width you care about. We will not invent a driveway standard for your street.
Hinge posts take the load. If the existing post moves when you lift the gate, the photo should show that. If you want a new fence and a new gate together, use the gates dropdown and mention the fence style so the bid is one project. Matching a ten-year-old fence is possible only if we can see the boards and the remaining posts.
Hardware and any operator are quoted after we see the opening. The photographed jobs are wood gates: arched double, custom entry, rolling, horizontal, and a wide pair. Wide driveway and RV gates are where metal framing usually enters the bid.
San Jose shop, family-owned since 2001, licensed and bonded, Diamond Certified, BBB A+ since 2008. Send the city, the opening, and photos. Up to six files, HEIC accepted. Related work lives on the front-yard and good-neighbor pages when the gate is part of a longer run.
A gate that sticks, drags, or no longer latches is a daily problem. Photograph the latch side and the gap at the bottom. We will not diagnose hardware we cannot see. The free estimate is the next step, not a phone quote invented from this page.
